What do Sturgeon eat?

The diet of White Sturgeon varies considerably throughout the year. During the winter months food sources are scarce. In the spring one of the main food sources are eulachons, which enter the Fraser River on their spawning migration.

After spring run-off has subsided and summer begins the salmon start their migration and Sturgeon gorge themselves the flesh and eggs of the millions of fish that travel upriver throughout the fall months. Other food sources include worms, eels, lamprey, chironomids and insect larvae, sculpins, sticklebacks and even freshwater clams.
